Great Bowerbirds make bowers. Then decorate them.
The bower is made from stout sticks, curved inward, to make a sweet tunnel.
A bower can be reused for many years, as is, or rebuilt as needed. One site was used for 70 years.
The decorations, up to 12,000 (!), range as you can see from stones and leaves to trinkets.
This was near a school, so water bottle caps, string, and straws were collected and placed.
If it looked shiny and intriguing, it might entice a female.
